Millie Floating


Check out my short story, "Millie Floating" at my other site, The Formality of Occurrence." It was inspired by the weird things that happen in a marriage when one needs to put ones pets down.

I liked this column. My ex-husband and I got a dog when our little girl was "a little girl." We were very careful with the dog named Princess. We made sure she had a healthy diet. We told our daughter that the dog would die if it ate People food. So our daughter always had a fit if someone gave her human treats.

The dog continued to be a member of our families, even after we divorced.

This July my ex phoned me telling me that I better come and see Princess.

My new husband, my mom and I told Princess to the vet. That afternoon my ex, along with his new wife, our duaghter and myself drove to the family farm and had a little burial ceremony.

This was an odd event of a family that used to be...and new families.

I have some of the same feelings you described

Looking for a Way Forward: The Obama Administration Stumbles Some on Climate Change

What kind of world do you want?
